letterpressed
I’m nearing the end of my letterpress class at SVA…total finished pieces so far: zero. I have such an intense work flow at my job. I work on around 4 or 5 projects daily, basically operating at puppy-farm graphic design speed. There is something nice about getting back to the basics of printing, with no demand for output, just a focus on process. I have devoted much of my time to operating an old clam shell hand-powered press. As the machine is not routinely calibrated, it produces varying results. Often, as was the case last night, I spend hours inking, calibrating, pushing type, preforming all the make-ready processes by hand, and end up with absolutely no finished product. It is amazingly gratifying. As I sit here typing, staring down at my Thalo Blue Ink stained hands, I wish I could figure out how to make a job out of the antiquated process.
